My goal is to always make the viewer find doubt in the ideas they find certain. The feeling of discomfort that arises is a marker of growth. As a Black queer filmmaker I use intimate visions of my fears as the key motivating factor in my work. Through these fears I have learned to be conscientious with the visuals I produce because I know what it is like to have others be careless with my image. However, my fears do not enable the amount of risks I take on a project. Being adventurous is not only about taking risks, it’s about knowing how to communicate a unique idea effectively to your team so that it will be produced with care. Risky ideas are strong but fragile. It is my job as an artist to raise a delicate idea into a compelling and influential piece.
